ProcessIt all begins with an idea. Thumbnails are never pretty... or fun to make. They're always worth it in the end though because you're forced to consider multiple different ideas instead of the first one that comes to mind. Regardless of whether my final piece is digital or traditional, a pencil sketch on paper is always a part of my process. This stage can take a very long time, as there is no going back after putting ink on paper. Coloring and touch ups bring the piece to life. I prefer to color in Photoshop when the piece needs to be full color, but I also have a soft spot for alcohol based markers and waxy color pencils. In this comic cover, I chose a monochromatic palette, because I wanted the ink details to be the focal point. Inking is my favorite part! Digitally, inking is done with a custom Photoshop brush, but traditionally, my tools range from Micron pens, to dry brush acrylic.
